If you’ve expected to address an audience that you aren’t familiar with, it can be difficult to connect with your audience and build a rapport.
Ask the organizer for the names of a half dozen people who will be in the audience.
Contact them and find out about their backgrounds and their expectations for your presentation.
Thank them when you start your speech.
Doing this homework, identifying the specific requirements, and customizing your presentations will impress the audience. Whatever the topic, audiences respond best when speakers personalize their communication.

Thank you for asking, may I begin by
Hi,
I am a young 75-year-old male. I have been intrigued by the thought of trying to be the best human on earth (yup, agreed quite nutty:-) I began such a search around 4 years of age (long story but…) I felt/concluded that we were surrounded by such organized, complex synchronous visual, auditory and emotional inputs in our surroundings that such beauty could not be accidental. I therefore in my child mind then concluded that someone did achieve such pleasantness deliberately (Yup I did/am reading Eric Berne, Harris, Dawkins, Collins, E.J. Smith, Korda & now Hawking). I then felt such a being (?) should be aware of my thoughts too :-). I committed to finding such during my lifetime and now believe I have and did. Hence I believe that the differential in intellectual capacities between a human and such a being must essentially be eternal, that the slow mostly flawed human learning curve will always be flawed. Hence Trump (oops forgive me:-) I meant hence it will always be better if we learn through this unseen being? I have in some measure been progressing on this path. Would love to chat with you all too. Or should I see my psychiatrist? Much love. t
